We had a great time discussing the first Thanksgiving at school this week.  We learned about the Native Americans and Pilgrims that created the thanksgiving tradition.  We made Native American headbands and had a giant feast.  Thank you everyone who donated food for our feast!

Dont forget we will be going on a field trip to Cinepointe 6 on Friday December 6.

Hot Hands

This week we learned about the letter H, the number 5 and different modes of transportation.

We started the week by turning our letter H into happy hippos.  After we learned what the H looked like, we had to figure out what sound it made.  The children quickly discovered that if you put your hand near your mouth while making the h sound it makes your hand hot.

We also discussed different modes of transportation this week.  We used a variety to get from place to place in the school.  On Friday, we made a hot air balloon and blew up a real balloon using baking soda and vinegar instead of our mouths.

Next week we will be talking about the letter I and Thanksgiving.

If you haven't got a chance to look at the Thanksgiving Feast sign up sheet and you would like to bring something to our feast, ask for the list at pick up or drop off.  The feast will take place on Monday November 25 and Tuesday November 26.  We will be out of school the rest of the week for Thanksgiving Break.

Science and Scarecrows

This week we learned about the letter G and the fall harvest.  We reviewed the number 2 and the shape triangle.

We also did a science experiment with candy.  We dissolved candy in water and added baking soda to see which candies are acidic.  Nerds exploded like a volcano!

On Friday we made scarecrow puppets.  The children loved making a puppet show with them at centers.

Holiday Fun

We had loads of fun this week!  Even in the crazy wind and rain we went on a hayride to the pumpkin field, saw some animals, went on slides and rode the train at Black Island Farms.

At our Halloween Party we made crafts, played games and trick or treated

I would like to say thank you to all of you who helped out this week it was fun but crazy and I couldn't have done it without you!

Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins

This week we had a pumpkin science lesson.  We observed a whole pumpkin and then I used my big strong muscles to crack it open so we could see what was inside.  The children loved feeling all the slimy seeds.

We also had a great time making our letter F into a fish, writing the number 3 and learning about patterns.  I was impressed with how fast they caught on to completing patterns.

Next week will be full of fun.  We will be going on a hayride to a pumpkin patch at Black Island Farms and enjoying a fun party day for Halloween.  Remember we will meet at Black Island Farms at 11:00 AM on Monday/Tuesday.

Crabs, Dancing and Fire

We have had a lot of fun the past two weeks. Along with learning about the letter C and D, we had a special visitor and learned about fire safety.

Rocky the hermit crab came to visit our class and teach us about where and how crabs live.
Since we were learning about the letter D this week, we did a lot of d..d..dancing!
This last week was fire safety week. We learned how to prevent fires and what to do in case a fire does happen. We even did fire drills in the rain.
Don't forget that next week there will be no school on Thursday and Friday and field trip envelopes need to be turned in next week.

Catching On

I can't believe we have already had three weeks of school!  All of the kids are starting to settle in and learn the routine.  Thank you everyone for your patience at pick up.  Staying inside until their name is called is one of the hardest concepts for the kids to learn, but it is necessary for everyone to stay safe.

This week we learned about the letter A, alligators, acorns and apples.

Everyone did a great job tracing our first letter

We had a lot of fun getting messy while we made acorns

Someone even brought everyone happy meals
for their birthday treat

Next week we will be learning about the letter B, birds, boats and bats.

Catch Up

Hey guys sorry I missed a week or two. With holidays, field trips and teachers in the hospital it has been a crazy couple of weeks.  Here is a brief review of all we have done.

We celebrated Valentines Day by making monsters and heart people, talked about all of the things we love and passed out valentines to all of our friends.  We also learned about penguins and how they care for their young.  Our Friday classes used bean bags to see what it would be like to be a penguin daddy and carry an egg on their feet.

Our next week was a short week.  We had just enough time to talk about Q and introduce Dr. Suess.

This week we talked about the letter R.  We made rainbows and learned a lot more about Dr. Suess.  On wed we all made Cat in the Hat hats and turned into sill cat in the hats.  We also got to bring something our favorite color for show and tell.  I loved seeing all of your cool things.

Dont forget to look in folders this week.  There was a lot of information sent home this week!

Love is in the Air

Valentines Day is coming up so this week we decided to start decorating to help get in the spirit.

We made hearts to hang from the ceiling

We talked about the things we love and made hearts for our bulletin board with the things we love on it

I think our love discussion really sparked something in the kids, because this week our class experienced something that doesn't happen often in preschool.  Ten strait minutes of getting along!  It was definitely a preschool miracle.  I did not have the heart to make them clean up, because everyone was sharing and getting along with each other.  It was beautiful!!

We also talked about teeth this week.  We learned what things are good for your teeth and what things are not.  Then we made some mouths with yummy marshmallow teeth.

I sent home a pink note about valentines in the folders this week.  If you have more questions please let me know.  Don't forget Monday, Tuesday and Friday are Pajama days, so come comfy!

Newts and Noses

This week we went over the letter N, number 8 and the five senses.  We explored all of our senses by smelling new scents, trying new foods and trying to identify an object with only our hands.  We even painted our newts with kool-aid so they would smell deliciously fruity.  We also made our names out of colorful noodles and on Friday we made necklaces.

Just a reminder calendars and newsletters did get put in folders this week, so be sure to look them over so you know what is going on.

Valentines Day is coming up so for those of you who are already making their valentines here are the number and ratio of kids in our classes:

Mon-Wed AM :17 total, 9 boys, 8 girls
Mon-Wed PM : 18 total, 8 boys, 10 girls
Tues-Thurs AM : 16 total, 10 boys, 6 girls
Tues-Thurs PM : 16 total, 10 boys, 6 girls

Magic Magnets

This week we got to explore the world of magnets.  It was fun to see all of the awe in the kids eyes when the magnets attracted or repelled each other.  It was like magic!  Which conveniently also starts with M.

We also talked about music this week.  We used our mouths, bodies and instruments to make sounds to sing along with.  On Friday we made maracas and in one of our classes we made drums from a students formula can donation.

Back to Normal

Things have finally settled down and for the most part returned to normal since Christmas.  The kids are starting to get back in a routine and have jumped right back into learning.

This week we Talked about the letter L, the number 7 and started to write the number 2.  On Monday/Tuesday we made lollipops and talked about the things we like to lick.  On Wednesday/Thursday we all turned into lions.

On Friday we tried lemons.  It was funny to see the difference in the kids taste.  Some really did not like them and a few kept asking for more.

With all of the cold weather we have not been able to go outside.  We have done many things to get our wiggles out.

We have done exercises

Yoga

and even turned into animals.

I just want to tell everyone who has come in or signed up for a parent teacher conference.  I like to be on the same page with all of my parents and would like to remind everyone that if you ever have any concerns big or small, you can always get a hold of me by text, phone or email.  If you are still interested in a conference there are still some slots open on the sign up sheet or you can contact me to set up a time.

Thank you for all you do!!
